The purpose of the Knox County Schools/PTA Clothing Center is to provide school appropriate clothing for students enrolled in our Knox County Public Schools who have a financial need and have been declared eligible by their school.
INTRODUCTION: Knox County Schools and the Knox County Council PTA offer a unique service to the students enrolled in our Knox County Schools - Preschool through 12th grade. For over 70 years, the purpose of the Clothing Center has been to provide clothing assistance to needy students so they may attend school on a daily basis. Over 2,000 students are served annually with over 60,000 articles of clothing distributed (new and used). With the help of United Way, Knox County Government, PTAs, PTSAs, PTOs and individuals, the Center provides students with the appropriate clothing needed to attend school regularly. Adequate clothing is just one way to improve a child’s self-esteem which leads to improved educational readiness. Referrals come from the students’ Teacher, Principal, School Secretary, Guidance Counselor, or Social Worker. The Federal Free and Reduced Meal Program guidelines are used as a basis for qualification. The final determination is based on the need of the child. See Procedures & Policies for more detailed information about our services. The Center also clothes students in emergency situations (fire, displacement, etc.). |
